The W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute

Since its inception in 1988, a primary aim of the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute has been to develop a cadre of young leaders / scholars with a sense of community purpose, who would be committed to giving back for the betterment of their communities and nation. As they evolve into maturity, these potential leaders are expected to provide hope, direction, and vision for African-Americans and Latino-Americans in the 21st century. The Institute provides training designed to develop such cadres of brilliant minds from these groups who will possess a commitment to eliminating poverty and racism, and will inspire the masses to overcome conditions that impede their prosperity and pursuit of happiness.

West African Research Association

The West African Research Association (WARA) was founded in 1989 to enhance collaborative research and scholarly exchange between U.S. and West African scholars, educators, and institutions and to increase knowledge about and interest in Africa in the U.S. Its stated objectives are to:
* Provide U.S. and West African scholars access to research resources and expand research opportunities * Create a point of contact for U.S. and West African researchers allowing the intersection of their respective research traditions * Foster collaborative research efforts, conferences and projects * Reinforce institutions on both sides of the Atlantic * Supplement documentation resources * Award fellowships to U.S. and West African scholars * Encourage interest in international affairs and careers among U.S. graduate students * Disseminate information on West Africa-related research issues and periodically organize meaningful and landmark seminars, symposia and conferences where experts and researchers and creative artists and thinkers from different horizons and backgrounds can meet and fruitfully exchange ideas, preoccupations, research results and stimulating thinking

Journal On African Philosophy

Journal on African Philosophy is an electronic journal sponsored by the International Society for African Philosophy and Studies (ISAPS) and published by Africa Resource Center, Inc. The Society was founded in 1995 at an inaugural conference held at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. ISAPS has the following aims and objectives:
(a) Promote the study of African and African Diaspora philosophy and studies worldwide from a broad (critical) perspective;
(b) Provide a regular forum for discussing philosophical issues pertaining to African and African Diaspora politics, aesthetic sensibilities, values, metaphysics and cultural traditions;
(c) Assist colleagues and departments in practical ways with the teaching of African and African Diaspora philosophy and studies;
(d) Produce an academic journal and other publications for exchange of ideas;
(e) Host regional conferences to discuss issues in African and African Diaspora philosophy and studies.

Ijele: Art eJournal of the African World is an online journal of contemporary art and architecture, art history and criticism, focusing exclusively on the visual creative expressions of artists in Africa and other regions of the world. As well, it also highlights the work of non-African / non-Diaspora artists who use iconography and symbolisms derived from any of the artistic traditions of Africa. Ijele: Art eJournal provides a forum for scholarly articles of the highest quality, and is devoted to making a major contribution to the advancement of African art studies in universities all over the world. Interviews that illumine the creative politics and philosophy of artists are especially welcome.

The Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA) was established in 1982 as an independent non-profit professional association affiliated with the African Studies Association (ASA) in the United States. The organization exists to facilitate communication among scholars, teachers, artists, museum specialists and all others interested in the arts of Africa and the African Diaspora. Its goals are to promote greater understanding of African material and expressive culture in all its many forms, and to encourage contact and collaboration with African and Diaspora artists and scholars.
